Craggy Range 2010 Prestige Release Tasting
2012

We enjoyed a fantastic tasting of the new release Craggy Range Prestige Collection wines this week. Hosted by winemaker Steve Smith and the lovely Mary-Jeanne from Craggy Range, we tasted the new 2010 releases of Les Beaux Cailloux, Sophia and Le Sol alongside the 2008 and 2006 vintages of each wine.
The chardonnay’s showed elegance and subtlety and great cellaring potential that puts them squarely in the top tier for this variety in New Zealand. The Sophia’s were equally good and it was interesting to hear about the stylistic evolution of this wine as it becomes increasingly elegant and complex with every year. One of the highlights was the Le Sol flight, showing just how good syrah can be in New Zealand. As Steve pointed out, it’s something of an accomplishment that a syrah can command the price that Le Sol does in a country so often preoccupied with pinot noir.
